Committing to something or someone is a process, of course it is, but when it comes to relationship’s mums are still – in 2025 – carrying out most of the domestic and childcare chores.
As divorce lawyer on insta says:
Mothers are expected to work like they don’t have children
And parent like they don’t have a job
Here’s a thought…
When women – predominantly – take on the majority of household and family roles, tasks and chores they’re inadvertently deepening their commitment to what should be shared roles.
Simultaneously it’s possible that they’re denying their partner the same ability to commit to the family dynamic.
As a left-field example, when I want to buy something that’s designed to last for a while I begin by researching.
I want to find the brand, the spec, the price, the functionality.
As I continue, I get a clearer picture about the model I want and what it needs to fulfil.
If somebody else does the research and buys the item for me, as much as they’re doing it for me as a kindness, it unwittingly gives me an excuse to dip out of taking responsibility for the buying outcome.
So, when couples agree to a serious relationship this ought to mean a genuine and fair partnership where they equally commit to:
- take responsibility
- share the roles, tasks and chores
Ultimately, this results in a far more enjoyable, playful and respectful relationship that results in a relationship that endures and deepens over time.
The one key thing that it requires is transparent, open and free communication.
If this speaks to you and you may be someone who excuses your partner’s dipping in and out of their family responsibilities.
If you’re worn out with ‘putting up’ and dare I say ‘shutting up’ I can support you into gently tweaking the situation from that into a win:win.
Drop me a line if it speaks to you and you know it needs to change.
Because it really doesn’t need to be this way unless you love all day, every day,
