Ruth’s Feedback After Not Being Able To Make Video
Because she was nervous in front of the camera – this is what happened…
- She’s A Creative Body Worker
An incredibly creative practitioner with the playful ambition of creating a kids-style playground for adults. - She Couldn’t Relax
She didn’t feel natural on camera. As a chatty person she couldn’t fathom it. - Ruth Did The Work
Once we got into it, she found the early childhood voices that had told her not to x, y, z. - The Results
Afterwards, she sent a video testimonial saying she’d not realised how much was sitting under the surface.
I come from creative family
All manner of creativity is prevalent in my family. Although I have the dancer gene I didn’t use it. I was painfully shy.
As a kid I was taken to shows, cinema, museums, galleries, the library. A family love of music and comedy on the radio and tv, set up a life-long love of all things cultural, diverse, equal and inclusive.
Despite all that I was a serious kid, things were taken seriously, there wasn’t much of the playful and silly that I enjoy today. This is in part due to my dad’s ill health, where I was 13 when he died. After that life changed in many ways; some better, some worse.

“Diagnosed at 17, I had depression for 30-yrs along with chronic aches and pains. Even though I was very sceptical at first, I needn’t have been. Working with Jane all my symptoms stopped and they haven’t come back.”

Later I went on a group trip to Antarctica and tacked on Patagonia. I’ve also trekked round both islands in NZ.

Finding my creativity
My Celtic family background is brimming with creatives. Music, drama and documentaries were part of my upbringing. I loved dancing and was clubbing at 14, which became a good outlet for my frustrations.
In school I was a class clown and In a roundabout way it was my first leap into words and wordplay, both of which got me into trouble. But later EFT Tapping unlocked something intuitive and playful where I properly started dabbling in writing in a variety of ways. Now, I’m working on a self-help book for the creative with a healthy-sceptics eye.

The Polyvagal Theory In Therapy by Deb Dana
Working With Jane
Where does your creativity stem from
I grew up in a dysregulated family and significant research bears out that many creatives are driven to start developing their talents during a difficult childhood.
In my case and maybe yours too, without the support of co-regulated adult in the room, it can be a struggle to self-regulate your emotions and behaviour. This is how stress impacts the system and builds as we age, if we don’t deal with the ripples that continue to come and go.
The field of quantum biology understands far better how hyper-sensitivity triggers the trauma response. The psyche doesn’t require a big dramatic event to kickstart a programme of chronic health, mood or behaviour symptom responses. It’s where the model of most talk therapy fails to track the underlying cause.

Why Creatives
Getting your early doors emotional needs met sets the scene. Finding a range of energy therapies moved me out of the ‘blame game’ into owning my shizzle. I love supporting fab creatives to work from the inside out.
- David Whitebread
In 2018 I attended a talk with David Whitebread that I wrote about for The Normal Festival Of The Brain. He advocated for play in the early years, and the detrimental impact of hover parenting on children’s adult life outcomes. It spoke to me. - Early Brain Development
I took Mine Conkbayir’s course Neuroscience & Self-Regulation for Early Years an introductory course that flags up how we get children pre-school ready by supporting their emotional wellbeing in the womb. - The vagus nerve
This major nerve plays a crucial part in the ‘rest and digest’ parasympathetic nervous system to enable relaxation. - Contact Email makingchange@janeunsworth.com
