EFT is the Emotional Freedom Techniques developed by Gary Craig, from the origins of TFT Thought Field Therapy that Psychotherapist Roger Callaghan devised from his studies of Chinese Medicine. Paul McKenna introduced me to TFT as the technique to use on his Phobia day, as part of my NLP training with him and Richard Bandler, back in 2004.
But Gary Craig developed it further and it’s become the generic form of tapping, Gary was the one to get it out there, so to speak. And his rendition is in my opinion more efficient because it really gets under the car bonnet of an issue, by getting to the core of an issue efficiently, without having to talk over too much of the story.
But in all fairness that’s the one I trained in so my advice would be to experience both and see what you think?
What is EFT good for?
It’s good for clearing all manner of things besides phobias, it basically works on anything stress, or anxiety related and people use if for everything and anything. Nick Ortner at The Tapping Solution, and co-founder of The EFT World Summit, an annual online event running since 2009, made a film called Try It On Everything.
EFT is used for the following, where people usually have noticeable change after only one session, unless there’s something else going on that needs addressing in tandem, in which case I would introduce more techniques into the mix:
- Bipolar disorder
- Confidence building
- Exam nerves
- Public speaking
- Relationship conflicts
- Self esteem
EFT has undergone much research too, and there have been a number of publications showing the technique in a favourable light. There are a number of them shown here, and when you go through to each specific post you’ll see they’re downloadable pdf’s for easier reference. Here’s the list which is taken off my EFT Practitioner Trainers website:
Brain injury, PTSD & depression
EFT vs EMDR for PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
EFT for fear
EFT on stress
EFT and trauma
PS: I’d love to support you in getting rid of what’s not floating-your-boat, so that you can learn how to change what works against you and start tapping into your full potential.
