Right off the bat, there’s one thing you need to know, which is that I’m all about the science.
However, even that can be thwarted and as a bit of a sceptic myself, I question everything. And my best gauge is what I’ve seen experienced for myself and the differences clients report.
My experience has lead me to stop compartmentalising weight management patterns, stress, and health issues!
Because what I’ve found for myself and my clients is that these areas overlap, and dealing with them simultaneously is how a full transformation is made through to the other side of any such symptoms.
As we age
If you’re acquiring more symptoms as you age, and finding it tougher to drop the weight, or get back into shape, then you’ll want to look at including the whole enchilada during your health and weight coaching sessions.
This gets you off the-hamster-wheel of sporadic dieting and exercise regimes, gets you free of health symptoms, and subsequently leads to reviving your energy, vitality and stamina.
The correlations made between aging and becoming frail, are mostly mythical assumptions, otherwise you wouldn’t find 90+ yr old’s still having outdoor adventures, and I’ve met plenty of octogenarians who do.

Weight loss can be complex
Despite what the media, and the health industry would have us believe in terms of their simple solutions to obesity:
Fuel consumed minus Energy used = Excess pounds and health problems
What if the topic is more complex (and from experience I sit firmly in this school)? What if you’re someone who’s struggled with this issue for the longest time? I know there will be times when you’ve blamed yourself, but this must stop! Because it’s not your fault.
Instead, think of it like this; there is a multi-billion-dollar-industry that ties people into the myths of diet and exercise as the-be-all-and-end-all.
And according to Traci Mann, Associate Professor of Psychology and lead author of a U.C.L.A. study findings in the April 2007 edition of the American Psychologist magazine reports dieting does not work.
This study was featured 30+ dieting plans that were observed for between 2 and 5 years.
Admittedly those approaches work for some people, but they don’t work for everyone, and when dieting hasn’t worked for you, starting another one will only serve to confuse your physiology further. The mind/body connection is simple, it’s our well-intentioned efforts that have complicated matters.
Where diets have failed you, it means you’re barking up the wrong tree, looking for solutions in all the wrong places (for you) but hoping that repeating your actions with another eating plan will bring about a different outcome is hardly going to solve the riddle.
If this sounds like you, you need to walk away from the dieting regime (at least for now) and do something different.
Why is nothing working?
You can hardly be blamed for not knowing who to listen to, or where to turn for your own solutions, you might be thinking that as you’re reading through this right now.
But what I’ll say next may surprise you; I absolutely welcome your scepticism because it’s a great internal monitor against which to gauge your success, as you make very real progress as you move back into regaining energy, vitality, and good health, as you lose weight, naturally.
One clue as to why you might find dieting a real struggle is because you’ve missed a VITAL step that comes beforehand:
Do you have sporadic eating patterns? Because normalising your eating takes you a long way towards the weight-loss results you’re seeking!
I searched for the longest time, for answers to my own questions, having low self-esteem, a lack of self belief, a collection of unwanted habits, and not being comfortable in my own skin.
I stopped smoking at 43 (having taken it up very early). Next I undertook a well-known dieting plan, and having reached target within 6-mths, I upped-sticks and left Manchester for Kent to live by the coast.
I haven’t craved a cigarette since, but food took over and my weight not only came back but it continued to increase. After several more attempts, I became even heavier and realised that dieting was not MY answer.
If you’re an emotional eater then dealing with what drives those patterns and turning-to-food-for-comfort is paramount BEFORE turning to an eating plan otherwise you may get triggered into old patterns when something unexpected happens. And that is wholly frustrating!

However, it’s worth noting that if you have any chronic health symptoms running alongside your weight-related issues, you need to deal with them-in-tandem.
You may not have thought of your weight as a health condition in it’s own right, but it’s not a separate area. Including it along with other chronic health symptoms will give you a true blueprint for success.
